Materials for studying American history assume the same approaches as materials available for world history: the people approach, the events approach, the ideas approach, and the geographical approach, but there is a distinct difference. The difference is that America is the only nation founded upon a base of Reformation Christianity. Our founding fathers, although not all Christian, operated out of a Christian consensus of moral belief, appealed to the power of prayer, and recognized God’s intervention on our behalf at certain crisis periods in our history. Our governmental system reflects its framers’ belief in biblical law and politics. Our history is, to a great degree, Christian.
Modern secular textbooks omit references to the Christian origins of our nation and distort events in such a way as to discredit God’s influence over them. Christian historians have tried to make Christians aware of these omissions and distortions. We recommend the resources below to lay the groundwork for your study of America’s Christian history.
